The Return of Taste.Touch.Feel. - Stepping back to Step Forward

This accountability process has been transformative on a personal level, offering me greater clarity and capacity to offer focused attention to The Haux Hive. I’ve taken a several-month hiatus, leaving the country to replenish myself and allow the team to mold, shift, and grow in my absence. We still have a ways to go but are learning and adapting as we progress.

Taste.Touch.Feel. returned on July 1, 2023 and I’d consider our first show back a success. To prepare:

  • All Haux Hive staff attended a virtual bystander training and basic dungeon/play etiquette class. Staff includes myself, the internal team, as well as event staff (Honeys, Care Bears)

  • The Haux Hive event team consists of people with experience facilitating kink events and educated in trauma-informed, somatic practices.: MEET THE TEAM HERE

  • I, Brooke Jay, have completed a course in Psychological First Aid

  • Guests were informed of our updated policies and procedures via email, social media, and from the host and a pre-recorded message several times throughout the event night.

  • The following personnel was present on 7/1 and will be present at every event moving forward.

      • two in-house, trained Haux Hive security

      • two guest/audience support specialist (Care Bears)

      • 2-4 trained dungeon monitors

  • Our educational series, Safe Word, served as a regular (quarterly minimum) public education on consent, play safety and dungeon etiquette.  We will be transitioning Safe Word to virtual learning, making it accessible to all and offering a way to guide newbies into [Black] kink spaces healthily.
