Accountability in Media

On September 1, 2023, our social media manager, Carter, posted recap photos from the Taste.Touch.Feel. Anniversary Show to our Instagram account. Minutes later we received a DM from an attendee indicating their picture was posted without consent. Carter immediately notified the team, issued an apology, and the picture was promptly removed.

While their face wasn’t shown in the photo, we understand that as queer, Black and Brown bodies, we have other indicators of identity such as our hair, tattoos, or jewelry.

Per our privacy policy, this media posting was a direct violation of consent and our promise to provide safer spaces. We apologize to anyone our negligence may have harmed in the process.

In response to this incident, we have created a social media approval system, requiring an additional 1-2 team members to review and approve all content intended for the public. The person, or people, who review said post is indicated in a media spreadsheet, accessible to the entire team.

Almost 1 year after the consent violation that triggered this accountability process, we have made many positive improvements but this work is continuous.
